Shennovates Empowers Female Corps Members with Business Grants
Amidst a clash of intellects among female corps members, the 2024 Batch “A” Stream II Corps Members at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja found themselves in the spotlight.
They participated in a “Pitch and Win contest” sponsored by “Shennovates,” a non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering gender equality and equitable access to resources, networks, and opportunities.
Platoon 5 secured the third position in the Shennovates contest. Okeke Amarachi, their lead representative, captivated the audience with her vision for the solar industry, particularly focusing on providing affordable solar panels in response to the country’s erratic power supply.
Her emphasis on reaching rural communities, such as the inhabitants of Ikorodu lacking electricity access, earned her platoon the recognition.
Platoon 4 followed closely, presenting an innovative concept for Asthma Care. Their compelling presentation highlighted the importance of health, securing them the second position with their insightful discourse and engaging slides.
Platoon 1 clinched the top spot with their presentation on the Declutter Fashion Brand. Their concept aimed to create an online platform connecting buyers and sellers, offering a solution for both decluttering closets and accessing high-quality clothing. This ingenious business model, facilitating user-to-user interactions, impressed the judges and earned them the first position.
In addition to receiving gift items, the winning platoons were rewarded with entry into a six-month sponsored business acceleration training program.
Barrister Moyo Odedeji, the program’s sponsor, announced this opportunity as a testament to the Dare to Win ethos she instilled in female Corps Members, affirming their potential for success.
