Salmwang Urges Corps Members to Uphold Scheme Values and Pursue Goals

The Lagos State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Christiana Salmwang, has called on the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members to embrace their ambitions and uphold the scheme’s values as they transition from the service year.

Speaking during the low-key passing-out ceremony held across all local government areas of Lagos State, Mrs. Salmwang praised the corps members for successfully completing their service year despite the challenges they faced.

She expressed confidence that they are leaving the scheme better equipped with skills and experiences gained through the orientation camp, community development activities, workplace assignments, and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

She hinted the importance of applying these skills to become self-reliant and innovative in navigating the realities of the current economy.

Mrs. Salmwang urged the corps members to maintain ethical standards, work diligently, and pursue legitimate ventures while serving as positive ambassadors of the NYSC.

During her address at Agege Local Government Area, Mrs. Salmwang further encouraged the corps members to uphold the values of the scheme and reflect on the mentorship provided throughout the service year to maintain a positive reputation in society.

Also present at the event was Mr. Ifeanyi Ezeajughu, Deputy Director from the Southwest Area Office (SWAO) 1, who monitored the activities.

He reminded the corps members that the NYSC would still oversee their conduct for two weeks after issuing their Certificates of National Service (CNS) and cautioned them against misconduct during this period . He also advised them to invest in continuous self-improvement through further education and skill acquisition.

As the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream I corps members complete their service year, a total of 6,020 were awarded Certificates of National Service, while 98 will have their service extended, and 57 are required to repeat the service year for disciplinary reasons.
