Rodrygo opted out of El Clásico amid Real Madrid exit speculation

Rodrygo Goes reportedly declined to feature in Real Madrid’s recent El Clásico win over Barcelona, despite being fit, fueling doubts about his future at the Bernabéu.
Although manager Carlo Ancelotti had confirmed pre-match that Rodrygo had recovered from illness and was “available to start,” the Brazilian remained on the bench.
Instead, youngster Victor Muñoz was brought on late in the game, raising eyebrows.
Post-match, Ancelotti attributed the decision to Rodrygo not being at full fitness, stating, “He recovered, but was not feeling well. Putting him on for 6 or 7 minutes, he was only going to get injured.”
However, Marca has since reported that the decision not to play was actually made by the player himself.
Rodrygo is said to have informed Ancelotti days before the match that he didn’t feel mentally or physically ready for the high-stakes encounter, citing fatigue and a lack of focus.
Reports suggest the player could seek an exit unless new manager-in-waiting Xabi Alonso makes a personal request to retain him.
Real Madrid are reportedly open to listening to offers for the 23-year-old, with Manchester City maintaining long-standing interest.
