Proven Methods for Scoring Higher in Exams
If you are taking any board exams or you are preparing to write class assessment test, this article is for you. In this I will share some simple and practical tips from my own experience as a graduate and a teacher to Scoring Higher in Exams, they really helped me in my exams. Once you are in exam room what are the tricks and strategies you can use to write your exams more effectively?
Start Fast to Meet Up
Often times when we start exams we tend to start slowly with beautiful handwriting and detailed answers, other students wants to start praying, students in this category tends to have incomplete answers and tends to forget answers in exam hall, towards the end the exams they run out of time and teachers will start pulling their papers, their handwriting changes from beautiful to ugly, the examiner can’t even read what they have written, to avoid this, start fast, keep a good pace in the exams so that you will not run out of time.
Read the Instructions
Every examination has an instruction, the instructions are there to guide you, personally I do award marks to students that follows instructions in my exams. Some students jump into answering the questions without reading an instruction, reading an instruction before starting your exams, boost your confidence and give you an edge in the questions. Here are the secrets, read the instructions very carefully, read the entire paper if there are choices to be made like which question to choose make the choices in the reading time so that you will not be doing that while writing the exams.
Don’t Leave an Answer Blank
Students who submits a blank answer to an examiner has the tendency to fail exams, remember there’s no negative marking, when you submit blank answer what you are indirectly telling the examiner is that you are unserious, one of the contributing factor to this problem is that some students are not sure or confident in their answers, in other to avoid this, write something it might turn out to be right don’t leave your paper blank your answer could fetch you some marks.
Check Before Moving To the Next Question
Some questions have part A to C, after writing an answer to a particular question, check the question before going to another one, you should always check if you have solved the entire question, check if you have made a mistake, it often happens that some students answer the A part and forgot the B part this is due to hurry and lack of confidence. I remember writing an exam during my undergraduate days and I didn’t notice that the question had part C meanwhile I was happy that I answered all the questions only to realize that I hadn’t finished my paper and I had submitted, so to avoid this always check before going to the next question.
Don’t Waste Time on One Question
Imagine wasting 25 minutes on a 3 marks question and lose 10 marks because you couldn’t complete the test paper, some students feel that they have to answer all the questions before moving to the next, if you can’t remember the answer to a particular question please don’t waste time on it, leave some blank space for it and go to the next one then come back to the question more relaxed, since you have completed other questions you will find out that all that you forgot will be restored back to you, I tried this formula and believe me it worked for me and am sure It will work for you too.
Avoid Solving Extra Questions
Many students feel like they know it all or they are not sure which is correct, they lack confidence in the answers, they feel like if this one is not correct the other will be correct and finally they think that the teacher or examiner will make the choice for them on the one they want, all these are all lies from the pit of hell, in fact most examiners can even go ahead to score the student zero because they feel the student disobeyed their instructions and wants to increase their stress, remember he has a lot to mark already so why give him extra work to choose for you. Choose the question you are more confident with and don’t solve extra, rather use the time to recheck your answers and resolve your calculations.
Avoid Looking At Your Friends
Don’t look around the examination room or the expressions of your friends, just focus on your books, and focus on getting your best, your friend’s reactions to exams can change your mindset about the exams and make you lose focus.
