Police Fire Teargas As Protesters Demand Justice Over Yelewata Massacre

On Sunday, Nigerian police officers fired teargas to disperse a crowd of protesters demonstrating against the killing of over 200 people in Yelewata, a community in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.
The protesters, dressed in black and carrying placards, marched through the streets demanding justice and urgent intervention from both state and federal authorities.
Their chants echoed anger and sorrow, as they condemned the repeated attacks on their communities by suspected armed herdsmen.
What began as a peaceful demonstration quickly descended into chaos when security operatives arrived and launched teargas canisters to disperse the crowd.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as protesters fled in different directions, with several people said to have sustained injuries in the stampede that followed.
