The Anambra Police Command has arrested nine suspected killers of Hon. Justice Azuka, the lawmaker representing Onitsha North II Constituency at the State House of Assembly.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, disclosed this at the Command headquarters in Amawbia on Friday.

He said the arrested suspects include Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19), Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25), and the most notorious among them, Peter Sunday (20), who has a large tattoo on his chest with the inscription “No peace 4 d Government.”

According to him, “In the early hours of February 6, 2025, at the Second Niger Bridge, the Joint Security team comprising the Police and AVG operatives, on a mission to rescue the abducted State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North, Hon. Azuka, sadly found his lifeless body at the scene.

“On the same day, based on intelligence-led information, the Command operatives, in a joint operation with Anambra State Vigilante operatives, arrested nine suspects actively involved in this unfortunate incident and recovered two pump-action guns.

“The Command operatives also arrested one Chidiebere Nwosu, a kidnap suspect in Uruagu, Nnewi, and neutralized some of his gang members involved in the attack on police personnel attached to the Rapid Response Squad after a successful arrest on October 3, 2024.

“We have also neutralized over 100 notorious criminals and successfully destroyed numerous criminal camps in Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, Ogbaru, and many other areas across the state.

“I want to extend our gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, for his guidance and overall support.

“We also appreciate the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, sister agencies, the media, residents of the state, Anambra State Vigilante operatives, civil society groups, organizations, and many others for their unflinching support during my nine months as the Commissioner of Police in the Light of the Nation.”
