Police arrest 7 suspected cultists in Edo

Edo State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cultists in Benin City.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, said the suspects were arrested while dehumanising an Okada rider at Peanut Junction along Benin-Sapele Road.
Yamu said the suspects were arrested by the operatives of the Love World Division on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
He gave the suspects’ names as Erick Charles, Gift Nerese, Odion Osaro, Festus Osaghai, Owas Ighodaro, Samuel Sabi, and Destiny Bernard.
He said two other suspects escaped, just as two others confessed to being members of the Maphite Confraternity.
The Command’s image maker listed items recovered during the operation from the suspects to include one pestle, one machete, one live cartridge, and one tricycle with registration number AUC 184 VH.
He said the suspects would soon be charged in court after investigations.
Yamu, however, added that the Command’s house-to-house arrests of identified cultists are ongoing, assuring that the exercise would be sustained until cultism is brought to the barest minimum in the state.
