PDP Chieftain Calls Out Ebonyi Governor For Lavish N400M Birthday Budget

Nwoba Chika Nwoba, a Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP In Ebonyi State, has called out Ebonyi State Governor, Ogbonnaya Nwifuru, over the allocation of N400 million for the upcoming 83rd birthday celebration of former Governor Martin Elechi.
On his facebook post on Saturday, Nwoba, in a fervent plea, called on the governor to reconsider the extravagant budget, suggesting that the funds could be better utilized for pressing needs in the state, such as providing bursaries to Ebonyi State University students.
“I’m pleading with the Governor of Ebonyi State to cut down the N400 million birthday event about to be hosted for the former governor of the state, Chief Martin Elechi.
“I’m saying this because, this sum can pay bursary to EBSU students of Ebonyi origin. Four hundred million naira is too much for a birthday party.” He added,.
Expressing concern over the economic challenges faced by the state, Nwoba questioned the appropriateness of spending such a substantial amount on a birthday party during a period of prevailing hunger.
Why should the government approve N400 million for the birthday party in a time hunger is the air we breathe in the state? It’s unnecessary.
Nwoba suggested that Chief Elechi’s 83rd birthday should be a moment for reflection and gratitude rather than an ostentatious celebration.
“Our people are suffering everywhere. Chief Elechi’s 83rd birthday should rather be a time for stocktaking and thanksgiving to God for gift of longevity. Throwing a party as costly as this is unnecessary.”
