Odumeje Advises Poor Nigerians to Avoid Studying Political Science and Sociology

Controversial Nigerian cleric, Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has advised poor Nigerians to avoid studying certain university courses such as Political Science, Sociology, and History.
In a viral video, Odumeje cautioned that individuals without financial means or strong connections in high places are unlikely to succeed with such degrees in Nigeria’s current system.
He said:
“All these poor people, if your father does not have any connection in this country, don’t go and study Political Science, Sociology, or History. You will suffer.”
According to him, these fields are more favorable to people from privileged backgrounds who already have access to influential networks. For others, he warned, they often lead to hardship and disappointment.
Odumeje’s comments have sparked widespread debate online. While some agree that his advice reflects the tough realities of Nigeria’s job market, others have criticized him for discouraging education and reinforcing class-based limitations.
Known for his dramatic sermons and controversial statements, Odumeje once again finds himself at the center of public discourse—this time for challenging the relevance of certain academic paths for underprivileged Nigerians.
