Nwifuru Hosts  Late-Night Meeting, Tackles Political Tensions

The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru on Tuesday night hosted a former House of Assembly member, Engr. Humphrey Nwuruku, and one other guest in a private meeting at the Governor’s Lodge, which lasted till 4 a.m.

The meeting followed an earlier visit at 8:47 p.m. by a senior military officer from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Enugu.

Sources revealed that Nwuruku and his associate presented the governor with N4 million as a Christmas homage gift during the long discussion. The governor reportedly expressed firm opposition to the swearing-in of Chidiebere Egwu as a replacement for Ali Odefa in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“Nothing on earth will make PDP swear in Chidiebere Egwu.”

He said he had already helped Odefa secure a stay of execution at the Appeal Court to block the move.

The governor also expressed dissatisfaction with the Southeast Governors Forum, citing opposition from Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State and claiming that other governors in the forum were against him. He disclosed plans to reduce his participation in the forum’s activities.

On internal party politics, the governor pledged support for the current state APC chairman from the South, despite his predecessor’s push for a chairman from the Central zone. He dismissed concerns about the 2027 elections.

“2027 is not giving me sleepless nights,”

He also hinted at discouraging further membership into the APC due to uncertainties surrounding his future in the party.

The governor accused the PDP gubernatorial candidate of working against his administration, alongside former Governor David Umahi and Senator Samuel Anyanwu. He alleged that the candidate attempted to meet with him during the Christmas holidays, but the request was denied.
