Nigeria Showcases Agricultural Ambitions at 2025 NAMPO Harvest Day in South Africa

Nigeria’s drive for an agricultural revolution took center stage at the 2025 NAMPO Harvest Day in South Africa, as AGCOMS International Trading Limited highlighted the nation’s commitment to modernizing its farming systems through mechanization and global partnerships.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Executive Officer of AGCOMS emphasized the Tinubu administration’s proactive steps to address Nigeria’s historically low mechanization levels. These efforts include the planned deployment of over 30,000 tractors over the next five years, the creation of mechanization hubs across the country, and large-scale training programs for tractor operators and mechanics.
As the official John Deere dealer in Nigeria, AGCOMS participated in Africa’s largest agricultural trade fair to draw international attention to the country’s growing agricultural potential. The company, which supplies tractors, implements, and mechanization services to both smallholder and commercial farmers, reaffirmed its role as a critical partner in Nigeria’s food security and agricultural transformation efforts.
AGCOMS’ participation was both strategic and substantive. Led by its CEO and supported by a team of 10 senior staff, the company used the platform to explore advanced machinery, engage with original equipment manufacturers, and strengthen partnerships vital to Nigeria’s mechanization strategy. Also in attendance was a delegation from Niger State, led by the CEO of Niger Foods, signaling increased sub-national commitment to mechanized agriculture.
The 2025 edition of NAMPO—organized by Grain SA—drew a record-breaking 87,191 visitors and featured over 750 global exhibitors. One of the highlights was the debut of the John Deere 9RX 830 hp tractor, the most powerful model ever introduced in Africa. Designed for high-performance, large-scale farming, the tractor combines immense horsepower with smart technology—an innovation AGCOMS plans to introduce into Nigeria’s evolving agricultural landscape.
AGCOMS also underscored its dedication to building a skilled, future-ready workforce by training young professionals and adopting international best practices. By positioning Nigeria as a rising hub for modern agriculture, the company aims to help lead the shift from manual to mechanized farming, supporting national food security and driving economic growth.
AGCOMS’ engagement at NAMPO not only showcased Nigeria’s agricultural potential but also reinforced the importance of strategic partnerships in propelling the country toward a more productive and globally competitive agricultural sector.
