An official of the National Youth Service Corps, Lagos State, Barrister Uwem Falegon, has charged Prospective corps members at the ongoing 2024 Batch “A” Stream II orientation exercise in Lagos to focus on the responsible use of social media while in camp and during service.

Barrister Falegon gave the charge during a sensitization session for the 2024 Batch “A” Stream 2 Prospective Corps Members (PCMs) at the NYSC Lagos Orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja.

She emphasized that media can be both a blessing and a tool for advocacy if used appropriately. She highlighted its potential to draw attention to important issues and even influence government actions.

However, she cautioned that there are certain expectations for corps members regarding their use of media.

Falegon reminded PCMs that while they can use social media to promote the ideals of NYSC, they must refrain from depicting the scheme in a negative light. Instead, she urged them to utilize the proper channels provided to address any concerns they may have. These channels include camp officials, Platoon Inspectors, the Camp Director and the office of the State Coordinator.

She warned against the misuse of the NYSC uniform or spreading false information on social media, stressing the importance of being mindful of their online presence, as employers often scrutinize social media accounts and profiles during the hiring process.
