FG to spend N3.57bn on Third Mainland, Carter bridge investigation

The Federal Ministry of Works has allocated N3.571 billion to investigate the deterioration of the Third Mainland Bridge and the Carter Bridge in Lagos, aiming to address structural issues.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, stated that a 2009 evaluation revealed signs of deterioration, which worsened by 2013. The latest investigation will assess the condition of submerged pipes to devise solutions for preventing further decay.
President Bola Tinubu has also directed that work on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway commence from the Calabar axis while ongoing construction in Lagos continues. The project spans 130 kilometers and will cost N1.334 trillion under an EPC+10 contract model.
Additionally, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved ten other projects, including access roads from Delta and Anambra States to the 2nd Niger Bridge, estimated at N700 billion. The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Phase Two, Section One, was approved at N195 billion under CBC financing.
Other approvals include N885 billion for the Abuja-Kano Highway, N22 billion for the Onitsha-Owerri Highway, and N18 billion for the Wusasa-Jos route in Kaduna. The Lokoja-Benin Road reconstruction was also approved, with Section One (Obajana-Benin) costing N64 billion and Section Three (Auchi-Edo) at N110 billion.
