The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N25 billion from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund to all states in the federation.
The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate announced this at the sixth meeting of the BHCPF Ministerial Oversight Committee which was held in Abuja.
The Minister allocated funds for direct facility financing and workforce incentives to be used across states.
Professor Pate has committed to improving healthcare outcomes for vulnerable populations including women and children in Nigeria.
“The disbursement process will be facilitated through gateways including the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
In a statement, Dr. Muyi Aina, Executive Director of NPHCDA, stressed the importance of transparency in expenditure and highlighted several initiatives that have been implemented to enhance accountability and service delivery.
The Director-General of NHIA, Dr. Kelechi Ohiri, emphasized the significance of providing financial access to healthcare for all Nigerians. He pointed out that health insurance’s primary objective is to decrease the financial burden on individuals seeking medical care, thereby preventing healthcare expenses from worsening poverty.
