Favour Ofili Seeks to Switch Allegiance to Turkey Over Nigeria’s Continued Neglect

Nigerian sprinter Favour Ofili has officially requested to switch her international allegiance to Turkey, citing years of neglect and repeated administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC).
Ofili’s decision follows a series of frustrating experiences, including her exclusion from the 100m event at the 2024 Paris Olympics despite meeting the qualifying standard. The incident mirrors a similar blunder that kept her out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics after her name was not properly submitted.
Now 22, Ofili has notified the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of her intention to represent Turkey, outlining the reasons behind her move.
Regarded as one of Nigeria’s top sprint talents, she holds personal bests of 10.93 seconds in the 100m and 21.96 seconds in the 200m.
