Baderinwa Strengthens Ties with Lagos State Fire Service

State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa has today paid a visit to the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service at the Service’s headquarters at Alausa, Ikeja.

The Visit which was borne-out of an invitation by the Comptroller of the Service, Mrs Margaret Adeseye, aimed to solidify the existing relationship with the organizations and to reveal other areas by which the scheme can be instrumental to the safety of lives and properties in the Metropolitan and highly populated State.

Speaking during visit, State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, said the purpose of the visit is to appreciate the Service for longstanding commitedness and collaboration with the NYSC scheme in the area of training and sensitization of corps members during Orientation Course.
Mrs Baderinwa who described the visit as “home-coming,” said it is a visit of people “we have been working with for a long time.” she added that the scheme will need more collaboration with the Service.

Reacting to the State Coordinator’s remarks, the Comptroller, Mrs Margaret Adeseye said the Service is delighted to receive the NYSC, stating that the Fire and Rescue Service’s core responsibility is the safety of lives and properties. She added that the Service “your Service, our Service, everybody’s Service.”
She said the responsibility of the Service is not limited to putting out fire but anything incidental to fire hazards, rescue, prevention, evacuation and first responders in fire incidents.

Speaking on the facilities of the Service, the Comptroller said the Governor of Lagos State, have been instrumental to the gains and achievements of the Service in the State, and its illustrious position nationwide.

She said upon her assumption of duty in July 2019, the Service was not effective because of lack of equipments.


She said in 2022, the Governor has empowered the Service with 62 new engines of 2022 model, to put out fire. She added that during that period, the Service only has 7 fire vans which are now numerous enough to service the State.
She said “we are not where we want but we are no longer where we were.”
She emphasized that through the insight of the Governor, the Service is now quartered in 18 Local Government Areas of the State and are ready to have two offices commissioned this year. According to the Comptroller, the Service aims to be in the Local Community Development Areas of the State, in order to “give the public the quick response time they demand of us.”

Meanwhile, the Comptroller has saught the collaboration of the NYSC scheme in raising Corps fire Marshals in training in order to bring to life the goals of the Governor in the safety of lives and properties in the State.
Emphasizing on this, she said the Governor is interested in incorporating corps members into the idea of a safe Lagos in the area of fire safety.
She said the official inauguration of the corps members if the scheme approves of it, will be at the maiden national conference of the Lagos State Fire Safety and Rescue Service to be organized by the Service for concerned organizations and people in June.

As part of the visit, the Comptroller conducted the State Coordinator and her entourage around the Service’s facilities.

In the facility of the Service are fire vans, Utility vehicles, self-service fuelling station, a mechanic workshop, and a control room with other offices domiciled in the new building built by the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu, to combat fire hazards in the State.
