Amaechi Declares Readiness To Join 2027 Opposition Coalition

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has taken a swipe at President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of worsening the hardship faced by Nigerians and declaring his readiness to join forces with those planning to challenge Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
In an interview with BBC, Amaechi, who is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his loyalty to the party does not mean he will stay silent in the face of poor governance.
“If the government is failing the country, you don’t just go along because you’re in the same party. You know that’s not right,” he stated.
He decried the rising hunger and economic hardship across the country, adding that even he is not spared.
“People are dying. People are starving. I myself am feeling the effects of hunger,” he said.
Amaechi also criticized Tinubu for allegedly weaponizing poverty, a sentiment echoed by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai during his recent 60th birthday celebration in Abuja.
The high-profile event, which brought together key figures in the emerging opposition bloc, further fueled speculation about a united front against Tinubu in 2027.
Amaechi, while affirming his commitment to telling the truth, signaled that he will not support any government that fails the people — regardless of political affiliation.
