Four Suspects Arrested Over Burning of 74-Year Old Woman in Wheelchair

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspects, including a 21-year-old woman, for allegedly burning a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair at Abagana, today, 26th of January, 2025.

The arrested suspects are Chinenye Ekwenugo, Uzochukwu Okeke, Fidel Anayo, and Ikenna Anene, all residents of Abagana. Police recovered the burnt remains of the deceased, her wheelchair, and a casket.

During interrogation, Chinenye Ekwenugo confessed that her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe, who is currently at large, and three others set the victim ablaze. They had planned to bury her.

Security operatives intervened before the burial could take place. Efforts are underway to apprehend the prime suspect, Ifeanyi Igwe, who fled the scene after the incident.

The deceased’s body has been deposited in the morgue for an autopsy. Authorities are conducting further investigations to determine the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has called for calm. He ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough inquiry.

The police assured the public that further updates on the investigation would be provided. They urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
