Wike Denies Allocating Abuja Land to Sons, Says Children Have Right to Own Property

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed allegations that he illegally allocated large plots of land in Abuja to his children, insisting they have the right to own land like any other Nigerian citizen.
Speaking during a media briefing in Abuja on Thursday, Wike strongly refuted online claims accusing him of allocating thousands of hectares in Maitama and Asokoro to his sons.
“Assuming, though not conceding, my children applied for land—are they not citizens? Are they Ghanaians? Even if they applied, are they not entitled because I’m a minister?” Wike asked.
He described the allegations as baseless and politically motivated, alleging that the smear campaign originated from someone in Adamawa State.
“First, calculate land in Maitama and Asokoro and tell me where you’d get 2,000 hectares. And I know where it is coming from. It is from Adamawa State. I am aware,” he said.
The reports claimed Wike allocated 2,082 hectares to one son through JOAQ Farms and Estates Limited and another 1,740 hectares to his second son, Jordan, amounting to 3,822 hectares allegedly worth $6.45 billion.
Wike rejected the figures as outrageous and challenged the accusers to present evidence.
“The whole thing is rubbish. Where in Maitama and Asokoro can you find 2,000 hectares? Bring the documents, bring empirical evidence,” he stated.
