Why 173,387 candidates Will rewrite UTME – JAMB Registrar

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, on Wednesday, announced that about 173,387 candidates in the just concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, would retake the examination.
Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, who is the JAMB Registrar, stated this at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
The announcement comes after JAMB admitted to errors in the 2025 UTME.
“What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” Oloyede said.
DAILY POST reported that JAMB had received an unusually high number of complaints regarding discrepancies in candidates’ scores.
This comes after widespread complaints of technical glitches, unusually low scores, and alleged irregularities in the just-concluded UTME.
However, Oloyede, who wept profusely on Wednesday during the press briefing, intermittently wiping his face with a handkerchief, said he took full responsibility for the negligence of its staff.
He further disclosed that 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres in the Owerri Zone, covering the five states in the South East, would rewrite the exam.
