University of Jos ASUU Indefinite Strike to Commence Over Unpaid June Salaries

The University of Jos ASUU indefinite strike is set to begin at midnight on Friday, July 4, 2025, as lecturers protest the non-payment of their June salaries. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos chapter, announced the action in a statement released to journalists in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday.

According to Prof. Jurbe Molwus, Chairman of the University of Jos ASUU, the decision to embark on the indefinite strike was reached during the union’s congress held on June 4, 2025. He emphasized that members would suspend all lectures and statutory meetings if salaries were not credited by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 3.

“This is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June is not paid by the stipulated time,” the statement read. “The University of Jos ASUU indefinite strike aligns with the resolution of the National Executive Council, which mandates branches to act when salaries remain unpaid by the third day of a new month.”

The chairman reiterated that the union’s earlier congress resolution empowered the branch to enforce this industrial action without further delay. He stressed that the ASUU indefinite strike would remain in force until members receive official communication instructing them to resume duties.

To ensure full compliance, the branch announced the immediate activation of its strike monitoring team. All academic staff have been urged to adhere strictly to the directive throughout the duration of the industrial action.
