Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize Nomination Withdrawn by Ukrainian Lawmaker

A Ukrainian lawmaker has officially withdrawn his nomination of former U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Oleksandr Merezhko, a member of Ukraine’s parliament and former head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, confirmed he filed the withdrawal on June 23, 2025. He originally nominated Trump in November 2024 for efforts he believed could lead to peace in Ukraine. However, Merezhko now says he has lost faith in Trump’s intentions.
“I no longer believe Trump is capable of bringing peace to Ukraine,” he said, accusing the former president of appeasing Russia and remaining silent in the face of continued missile strikes on Ukrainian cities.
Despite this withdrawal, other nominations for Trump remain. U.S. Congressman Buddy Carter recently nominated him for helping broker a ceasefire between Israel and Iran, while Pakistan’s government has expressed plans to nominate Trump for easing tensions with India.
The deadline for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize nominations is January 31, 2026, with winners expected to be announced in October.
