Georgia Republican Congressman Buddy Carter has nominated former President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing his key role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.

In a letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, Carter said Trump played an “extraordinary and historic role” in ending the armed conflict and halting Iran’s push for nuclear weapons.

“President Trump’s influence was instrumental in forging a swift agreement that many believed to be impossible,” Carter wrote. “He also took bold, decisive actions to halt Iran’s nuclear ambitions and ensure that the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism remains incapable of acquiring a nuclear weapon.”

Trump announced the ceasefire late Monday afternoon, declaring an end to what he called the “12 Day War.” The truce was scheduled to take effect overnight Tuesday, concluding a brief but intense period of military exchanges.

The conflict erupted when Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran over concerns Tehran was nearing the completion of a nuclear weapon. In the days that followed, both nations exchanged rocket fire. The U.S. later joined the fray, targeting three key Iranian nuclear sites in airstrikes over the weekend.

Iran retaliated on Monday by firing rockets at a U.S. air base in Qatar. However, the attack was preceded by advance notice to American and Qatari officials, and no injuries were reported.

Carter praised Trump’s leadership throughout the crisis, saying it reflects the “very ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize seeks to recognize: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony.”

“President Trump demonstrated both courage and clarity,” Carter added. “In a region plagued by historical animosity and political volatility, such a breakthrough demands both.”

This marks another Nobel Peace Prize nomination for Trump, who has previously been suggested for the award but has never received it.
