President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has arrived in Rome ahead of the solemn Mass marking the beginning of the Pontificate of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.

Upon arrival, President Tinubu was warmly received and hosted to a dinner by His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State.

The high-level meeting between President Tinubu and Cardinal Parolin was described as a cordial and productive engagement, centered around shared global values such as peace, mutual respect, and solidarity. According to a statement shared via the President’s official Facebook page, the dialogue was marked by a “spirit of fraternity and a shared vision for the future.”

During their conversation, President Tinubu expressed Nigeria’s gratitude for the Vatican’s longstanding goodwill and diplomatic relationship. He also reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering interfaith dialogue, promoting tolerance, and advancing cooperation in a world facing rising polarization.

“As always, Nigeria remains a nation open to friendship, grounded in faith, and committed to building bridges of understanding across the world,” the President stated.
