Tinubu Has Tried for Keeping Shettima This Long – Datti Baba-Ahmed Drops Bombshell

Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has said Tinubu has tried for keeping Shettima despite having reasons to let him go. Baba-Ahmed made the statement during an appearance on Arise TV’s Prime Time on Thursday night.

His remarks come amid rising speculation that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may not retain Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

While responding to questions about the alleged rift between the two top officials, Baba-Ahmed said:

“On Shettima, I don’t blame Tinubu. Because whoever knows what Shettima did and does, will not allow him last this long.”

He added,

“The airwaves cannot carry it. And I know I’m speaking on TV. I know Tinubu has tried for keeping Shettima this long. Even the consideration that he should be dropped, I think Tinubu has tried.”

Baba-Ahmed’s statement, laced with ambiguity, strongly suggested there are hidden issues surrounding Shettima’s role in government that, if revealed, could change public perception.

He concluded with a warning:

“It is a pregnant statement. I wish I could say more. What people do for power is unbelievable.”

The repeated emphasis that Tinubu has tried for keeping Shettima reflects both a criticism and a veiled insight into the internal workings of Nigeria’s highest office.
