Rotimi Amaechi Accuses INEC of Frustrating Opposition Parties Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of frustrating opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections. According to Amaechi, INEC is deliberately working to weaken any coalition that could challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming polls.

Speaking during an appearance on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, Amaechi stressed that every opposition member involved in the coalition is currently operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

“Every member of the opposition who belongs to the coalition is a member of the ADC,” Amaechi said. “Are we stopping at that? The answer is no. I head a committee with the mandate of the coalition to pursue the registration of the All Democratic Alliance, ADA.”

Amaechi alleged that if INEC had approved the registration of the ADA, the coalition would not have needed to join the ADC. He argued that INEC is frustrating opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections by deliberately closing the political space to favour the APC.

“The political space is closed for the benefit of the APC,” he declared. “I come to say that the INEC chairman is not ashamed. Some of the parties that tried to register have been ignored completely. Their rents have expired, and INEC is deliberately delaying so nobody can fight the APC. And they’re not even ashamed that after Maurice Iwu, they organised the worst election; I would be ashamed.”

He further explained that the only reason the ADA registration had not been finalised was the need to submit the official address and details of its officers at the next meeting.

Despite these challenges, Amaechi insisted that the coalition under the ADC would continue to mobilise Nigerians, saying it would do everything possible to protect the integrity of the democratic process and prevent election rigging.
