PDP governors reject coalition plans against APC ahead of 2027 election

Governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic party, PDP have rejected the move by some leaders of the party to form a broad based coalition against the ruling all progressives Congress APC ahead of 2027.

Former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra state Governor, Mr. Peter Obi and others, including some aggrieved members of the APC have been holding talks aimed at a coalition

Presenting their communique to journalists at the end of their meeting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, the chairman of the PDP Governors forum, Senator Bala Mohammed emphasized that the party would not be part of any political merger or coalition.

The PDP governors however welcomed any group or individual that may wish to work with them to wrestle power from the APC in 2027.

The forum announced that in view of the supreme court judgement on the national secretaryship of the party, the Deputy National Secretary should serve in Acting capacity.

The PDP governors reiterated their rejection of the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, maintaining that they had already approached the court to look at the issue.

Meanwhile, The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has expressed serious concerns over the management of local government funds under the current administration led by the All Progressives Congress (APC). During a meeting held at the PDP secretariat, PDP State Chairman Hon. Bello Aliyu Goronyo detailed issues of financial constraints afflicting several local councils, attributing these challenges to broader governance shortcomings.

Goronyo called for enhanced transparency and accountability in the administration of local government resources. He emphasized that the ongoing financial difficulties could undermine developmental efforts and impede the delivery of essential services, notably in areas such as access to potable water in parts of the Sokoto metropolis.

Highlighting his concerns, the Chairman urged the present APC administration to prioritize the welfare of the people of Sokoto State by ensuring that resources are managed effectively to foster improved living conditions and quality leadership. The PDP remains steadfast in its commitment to addressing these issues and providing practical solutions to meet the needs of the state’s residents.
