PDP BoT Holds Emergency Meeting Over Wike Crisis And Party Turmoil

The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding a high-stakes closed-door meeting at the Bauchi Governor’s Lodge in Abuja amid deepening internal disputes and operational challenges facing the party.

The emergency session, which began at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, is primarily centered around the escalating crisis involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Wike recently pulled out of ongoing peace talks, accusing key party figures, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, of dishonesty and bad faith.

A party source told Vanguard, “The BoT is trying to sort out the issues with Wike. He pulled out of the peace talks and accused leaders like Seyi Makinde of not being truthful.”

Among those attending the meeting are Acting PDP National Chairman Umar Iliya Damagum, Governors Peter Mbah (Enugu), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Douye Diri (Bayelsa), and Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum.

Other prominent attendees include Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, BoT member Ben Obi, retired Navy Commodore Olabode George, ex-Information Minister Jerry Gana, former Niger Governor Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, ex-Ministers’ Forum Chair Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, and former Women Affairs Minister Josephine Anenih.

Beyond the Wike controversy, the BoT is also addressing the recent closure of the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, by the Federal Capital Territory Administration over 28 years of unpaid ground rent. The shutdown has forced the PDP to temporarily relocate its operations to the Bauchi Lodge.

“They’re also dealing with the fact that the party’s headquarters has been shut down by the FCTA over unpaid rent, which is why they’re meeting at the lodge instead,” the source added.

There is also speculation that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, initially scheduled for Tuesday, may be postponed to allow more time for internal reconciliation.

“The NEC meeting might be pushed back to give more time to settle these internal conflicts,” the source confirmed.

The party’s internal tensions have worsened since Wike’s public exit from the reconciliation process on Sunday, raising fresh concerns about unity and direction within the PDP.
