Obasa re-elected as Lagos Speaker

Mudashiru Obasa has been re-elected as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Obasa’s re-election follows Mojisola Meranda’s resignation after stepping down as the Speaker of the House.
During Monday’s plenary, Noheem Adams, a former Majority Leader representing Eti-Osa Constituency 1, moved a motion for the re-election of Obasa.
On Thursday, February 27, 2025, Mudashiru Obasa was impeached by the majority of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office. told the media that he has resumed his position as the leader of the House.
Soon after, his deputy, Mojisola Merinda, was brought back to lead the assembly as the first Lagos female speaker, with Mojeed Fatai appointed as the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.
According to Obasa, his impeachment did not follow the laid-down regulations and procedures, a process he said must be backed by the constitution.
