NYSC Lagos Holds First Official Meeting In 2024
State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa have today for the first time in 2024 met with officials of NYSC Lagos State at the NYSC Lagos State Secretariat, Surulere.
Addressing officials during the meeting, the State Coordinator, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa welcomed the officials into the new year, appreciated their efforts in the year 2023, particularly for the success of the 2023 Batch C Orientation Courses.
Mrs Baderinwa also congratulated members of staff in relations to the recognition of the State Coordinator and the Scheme in Lagos, by the Director-General of NYSC, for their standard of practice, in which they welcome corps members to the State for Orientation Courses.
Acknowledging the efforts and contributions of members of staff in driving the commendation to the Secretariat, Mrs Baderinwa charged them to continue to synergize and not rest on their oars on excellent practices.
She said, “all hands must be on deck in achieving organizational goals which are of great impacts in the youths, which by extension, is preparing them for the world at large.”
She urged them to ensure that the policies of the scheme are implemented to the letter in their various beats and assignments. As the first meeting for the year, the State Coordinator has rolled out the agenda for 2024 which the Secretariat must implement. The agenda are; welfare and security of corps members .
The State Coordinator stated that the welfare and security of corps members must be given utmost priority and must be treated with absolute commitment at all times.
Secondly, intensifying relationship with stakeholders at all levels, especially on the mentoring and adequate utilization of corps members.
Thirdly, disciplinary cases and awards of corps members must be handled with competence and established protocols. Improvement of communication between officials and corps members-she emphasized that officials must relate with corps members with decency and respect.
Also, as part of the agenda for the year, Mrs Baderinwa said as an improvement on 2023, there will be regular in-house trainings, and knowledge sharing sessions, as well as stepping down of trainings by officials who are trained at workshops to officials who are not invited.
Lastly, she pointed out that stakeholders relationship with the scheme must be improved upon for better results. Meanwhile, the State Coordinator has brought out some grey areas of interest which are drawbacks to the operations of the scheme.
She pointed that shoddy practices, incompetence on duty, unfriendly treatment of corps members, less formidable relations with stakeholders, scanty, less substantial individual & group Community Development Service activities/projects, less-yielding media relations, unethical practices on the job, inadequate checks on negative use of social media by corps members on their colleagues and issues bordering on the scheme are issues that would be worked on in the year, and upon which officials are expected to turn up positively.
She urged officials to be abreast of the happenings of the scheme, by focusing on emerging policies and practices in order to put the scheme in good stead, and promote its image. She also advised that officials can keep up to date by following the scheme’s “Half Hour” programme on Wednesdays on NTA International.
Also, as part of the programme today, the Secretariat’s Knowledge Sharing Session has commenced with two papers delivered.
Mrs Adewole Motunrayo delivered the paper on the topic “Work Place Ethics For Maximum Productivity,” while Mrs Bakare Rodiat delivered a paper on the topic “Work Life Balance.” The Knowledge Sharing Session of the NYSC Lagos was established to enlighten members of staff on personal, social, psychological and economic issues that have bearing on the job, and the workplace and how to handle such.
