NYSC Lagos Charges Officials to Foster Positive Impact and Discipline for 2024 Batch ‘A’ Orientation Course

The State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, has charged officials of the 2024 Batch “A” Stream I Orientation Course at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja ,that it is their collective responsibility to ensure corps members coming to the course leave positively impacted.

Mrs. Baderinwa gave the charge at the inaugural meeting with the officials to set off the 2024 Batch “A” Course on Wednesday Evening.

Mrs Baderinwa who Saluted the officials about the successful conduct of the 2023 Batch “C” Orientation Courses despite the challenges which accompanied the courses, noting that the reason the Scheme has continued to enjoy success in the State is the commitment of people to their jobs and the synergy that have been existing among collaborating agencies to drive the objectives of the Orientation Course.

The State Coordinator charged the officials to sustain the tempo and not relent in their efforts. She emphasized that as officials of the Course, they must all agree, and speak with one voice when handling corps members.

On Corps Members’ welfare, the State Coordinator has equally urged the officials to ensure an enabling environment is given to the Corps Members, removing all forms of hostility so they can settle down on Camp.

She emphasized that no corporal punishment should be meted on any Corps Member but must be disciplined when they err in line with the provisions of NYSC laws. She also admonished them to treat the Corps Members with respect and avoid using abusive words on them.

Meanwhile, the State Coordinator has warned that over-socialization is not permitted between officials and Corps Members but must maintain discipline, fairness, and high-handedness, stressing that their temperament must be put to check as they have youths raised from different backgrounds.

The Camp Director for the Course, Mr Kayode Osinubi, has solicited the support of the officials toward the realization of the success of the Course.

Mr. Osinubi mentioned that the idea of the Course is to change the attitude of Corps Members, stating that they are all coming with different ideologies. He told the officials that they must put up a good attitude if they want to change the Corps Members and impact them. He emphasized that officials must deploy the use of emotional intelligence in handling them.

Inline with the Camp Director and the State Coordinator, the Camp Commandant, Major I Ibrahim has pointed out to the officials that all Course have their peculiarities and have unique factors dictating them, he urged them to carry out their duty diligently and keep to time in all programmes of the Course. He urges the officials to be mutually respectful to themselves and exercise patience with corps members.

He also urged officials that all must come together to tackle the biggest problem facing the youth which is drug abuse.

The 2024 Batch “A” Stream I Orientation Course begins tomorrow and corps members will be in camp for three weeks where the objectives of the Scheme will be impressed on them.
