NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms Nationwide from Wednesday to Friday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast widespread thunderstorms and cloudy conditions across various parts of the country from Wednesday through Friday.
In its weather outlook released on Tuesday in Abuja, the agency predicted early morning thunderstorms in parts of Taraba, Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States on Wednesday. Later in the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms are expected to extend to Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, and additional parts of the Northwest and Northeast, including Kaduna, Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Taraba.
For the North-Central region, NiMet expects isolated morning thunderstorms in Plateau, Nasarawa, Niger, Kwara, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), while thunderstorms are likely to persist into the afternoon and evening in Nasarawa, Kogi, Benue, Niger, Plateau, and the FCT.
In the South, morning thunderstorms are predicted over Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Cross River, Bayelsa, Rivers, Lagos, and Akwa Ibom, with a higher likelihood of more widespread storms later in the day.
On Thursday, morning thunderstorms are forecast in Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara, while Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Gombe, and Bauchi will likely experience storms by afternoon. The North-Central region is expected to see mostly sunny conditions, with isolated thunderstorms possible in Benue, Kogi, and Kwara.
Friday’s outlook includes morning storms in Adamawa, Taraba, and Kaduna, which are expected to continue into the afternoon. Sunny skies with periods of cloudiness and localized thunderstorms are forecast for Plateau, Nasarawa, the FCT, Benue, and Kogi.
NiMet also cautioned that strong winds may precede thunderstorms and advised the public to take safety measures. These include securing loose items, avoiding unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, unplugging electrical appliances, and staying clear of tall structures such as trees.
The agency urged airline operators to consult airport-specific weather updates from NiMet for flight planning and advised citizens to stay informed through its official platforms or website.
