Nigerian Man Emmi Wuks Sparks National Debate With Attempt To Cycle From Nigeria To The U.S.

Emmanuel Myam, a 25-year-old adventurer from Benue State popularly known as Emmi Wuks, has once again captured national attention—this time for attempting to cycle from Nigeria to the United States.

Wuks, who gained popularity in 2022 after riding a bicycle from Makurdi to Lagos in a bid to meet music star Davido, has embarked on a far more ambitious journey. Though he completed that earlier trip in nine days and earned praise from brands like Fearless Energy Drink, he never got to meet the artist.

Now, his latest endeavor has ignited heated discussions both online and offline, with reactions ranging from admiration to concern.

While many have hailed his courage and adventurous spirit, others have raised alarm over his safety and mental well-being.

One concerned X user, KengKeng Ati, wrote, “Some of you urging Emmi Wuks on are leading him to his grave. He should be bundled to the nearest psychiatric hospital. Whatever drugs he might be abusing must be discovered now.”

In a more formal response, Peter Abugu petitioned the Nigerian Police Force, calling the journey a “suicidal mission.”

“Suicide is a criminal offence in Nigeria, and it’s your duty to act preventively,” he wrote, urging immigration officers to intercept Wuks before he leaves the country.

Still, many Nigerians have come to his defense.

Human rights lawyer Ibn Madaki offered a broader view: “When Karl Benz and Henry Ford pioneered the automobile, people mocked them. When Elon Musk spoke of private space travel, they called him mad. Let us not mock dreamers like Emmi Wuks. His courage deserves reflection, not ridicule.”

Another supporter, Iveren Jude-Iorver, added simply, “My prayers are with you. History is about to be made.”

Amid the criticism and praise, Wuks has clarified that the journey is not just about adventure—it’s a campaign to raise awareness and support for vulnerable children and internally displaced persons (IDPs), especially in Benue, a state grappling with insecurity and displacement.

“This is more than a journey—it’s a mission of hope, courage, and resilience,” he said in a post on his social media handles.

He began the trip on Monday from the main gate of Lagos State University of Education, Oto/Ijanikin.

As his journey progresses, Nigerians remain divided—but one thing is clear: Emmi Wuks is no ordinary traveler, and his mission is far from being ignored.
