Job Opportunity: Sales and Trade Development Representative – Shendam

Role Purpose

This role is focused on the efficient management and strategic development of MTN’s trade infrastructure and mobile financial services within the assigned territory. The successful candidate will play a key role in boosting MTN’s presence and visibility at the retail level by nurturing effective distribution networks, particularly among retailers and other trade channel participants. The objective is to solidify MTN’s market leadership in the designated area and enhance brand visibility for competitive advantage.


Key Responsibilities

  • Engage directly with dealer branches and sub-dealers to verify stock movement and inventory levels.
  • Deliver informal training sessions on MTN’s products, services, and ongoing promotions to retail partners and provide immediate on-site coaching for every outlet visited during sales cycles.
  • Organize and oversee promotional campaigns and events within the territory, draft promotional specifications for sub-dealers, and conduct thorough evaluations after each promo.
  • Compile and submit comprehensive weekly and monthly reports on sales activities, competitor insights, and market trends to support field service operations.
  • Observe and report on service quality and other operational indicators that affect sales performance within your coverage area.
  • Complete 8 to 10 outlet visits daily as part of the regular sales route or based on evolving business needs.
  • Identify and categorize all key players in the distribution chain, maintaining a regularly updated database (weekly/monthly).
  • Ensure MTN products maintain at least 95% availability across all retail outlets visited during each sales cycle, and submit weekly availability reports.
  • Guide all trade partners toward high-potential growth areas identified by MTN within your territory.
  • Implement consistent channel branding and retail display standards in line with MTN’s trade marketing guidelines.
  • Strengthen MTN’s presence by ensuring point-of-sale materials and signage are appropriately distributed to achieve at least 65% brand visibility across distribution outlets.
  • Provide full merchandising support for all outlets, ensuring compliance with branding guidelines.
  • Foster strong working relationships between distributors, sub-dealers, and retailers, facilitating communication and partnerships to optimize sales performance.
  • Resolve issues related to activations, product delivery, and promotional campaigns promptly and professionally.
  • Continuously collect market intelligence and deliver actionable feedback to support business strategy and decision-making.

Candidate Requirements

Educational Qualification:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in the Social Sciences or related disciplines.

Language Skills:

  • Proficiency in English is required.

Work Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably within the sales or marketing function.
  • Experience in a mid-sized corporate environment is an advantage.
  • Prior exposure to the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) industry, particularly in a sales or marketing role, will be highly beneficial.
