Position Summary

The General Manager, Network Services – Network, will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for MTN Nigeria’s national network operations. This role is instrumental in ensuring the seamless functionality, performance optimization, and quality assurance of the company’s telecommunications infrastructure, in alignment with its corporate goals and customer satisfaction commitments.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and implement national strategies for enhancing network coverage, increasing capacity, and optimizing overall performance in alignment with MTN Nigeria’s corporate direction.
• Lead the development of policies, standards, and operational frameworks to ensure efficient service delivery and the attainment of division-wide objectives.
• Guarantee that network operations and maintenance adhere to both internal standards and global telecommunications benchmarks such as ITU specifications.
• Supervise the prompt resolution of major faults and ensure continuous, real-time monitoring of core network systems, including IP/MPLS and transmission networks.
• Collaborate with various internal departments to assess performance, enhance service quality, and ensure smooth cross-functional operations.
• Define acceptance criteria and technical requirements for the deployment of new core infrastructure, including PS/CS nodes, power systems, and transmission equipment across the nation.
• Review emerging technologies and industry trends to develop forward-looking operational plans that align with MTN’s growth strategies.
• Provide expert technical guidance on the formulation of departmental frameworks and enforce compliance with MTN’s operational policies.
• Oversee the integration of new network components into existing systems, ensuring consistency and reliability in service delivery.
• Assess, evaluate, and optimize network resources to achieve cost-efficiency and scalability.
• Establish performance evaluation processes to measure the impact of technologies and operational decisions on customer experience.
• Offer visionary leadership to the Network Services team, ensuring alignment with business objectives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Mentor team members, promote professional development, and utilize corporate training platforms to build staff capabilities and enhance productivity.
• Identify skill gaps and monitor team performance, ensuring talent development initiatives are tailored to individual and departmental growth needs.

Requirements

Educational Background:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Communications Engineering is required.
• A postgraduate qualification such as an MBA or MSc in a related discipline is an added advantage.
• Proficiency in English is essential; additional local or international language skills are a plus.

Professional Experience:

• A minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in telecommunications or related fields.
• At least 5 years must be in a senior management role, with a minimum of 3 years in a directly relevant industry position.
• Prior experience within a multinational organization or in emerging markets is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated expertise in network operations, infrastructure management, and technical leadership.
• Proven track record of working effectively across various cultural and geographic settings.
