Veteran Nigerian rapper Jude Abaga, popularly known as M.I Abaga, has admitted he regrets supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the 2015 general elections.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Menism podcast, the acclaimed “African Rapper No 1” revealed he initially backed the APC as a reaction to the widespread corruption he perceived in the then-ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“Yes, I supported APC because at that time, I felt that the PDP government was very corrupt. I was part of the people who lifted my voice to say, ‘Let us stand and bring in democracy,’” he stated.

M.I recalled being heavily criticized after he tweeted about the herdsmen attacks in Benue State, with many Nigerians reminding him of his political stance during the 2015 elections.

“I tweeted about the thing that happened in Benue and a lot of people were saying, ‘But M.I, you supported the APC,’” he said.

Reflecting on his past support, the rapper admitted it was a mistake, saying the APC had failed to uphold the principles he once believed in.

“As a human being, no matter how much you try to be right, you will be wrong sometimes. APC unfortunately isn’t the APC of my dreams,” he added.

Now, M.I says he’s more focused on contributing to national development through music, advocacy, and youth engagement. He emphasized the need to empower young people and use his platform to hold leaders accountable.
