Lagos State Govt prioritizes corps members’ safety during service year, No night travels, warns Baderinwa

The Government of Lagos State has vowed to ensure the safety and well-being of corps members during the service year.

This pronouncement was made by the Honourable Commissioner of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Hon. Olugbenga Oyerinde, today, at the NYSC Lagos Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja during the Swearing-In Ceremony and official opening of the 2023 Batch “C” Stream I Orientation course.

Honourable Oyerinde who represented the Governor at the event, said “The government of Lagos State is committed to providing a secure environment for all residents, including our valued corps members.” Welcoming the corps members to camp, he urged them to embrace the challenges that come with the service year, stating that the service year” will be a time of profound growth and learning for you as you will encounter new cultures, ideas, and perspectives. I therefore urge you to seize this opportunity to expand your horizons and absorb as much knowledge as you can.”

The Swearing-In Ceremony carried out by Honourable Justice Ipaye Nwachukwu, who represented the Chief Judge of Lagos State, had 4,880 registered corps members in the State including corps members in other dislodged States of Osun, Oyo, and Ogun.

 Addressing the corps members during her introductory speech, State Coordinator NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, in alignment with the safety measures taken by the State Government, warned the corps members not to embark on an authorized journey during the service.

She said if the journey is necessary and approved, they must ensure they do not embark on a night journey. She informed them to board vehicles from designated parks and avoid going farther during the night. She added when stranded during the journey, the corps should use available police stations, and military bases to pass the night.

Meanwhile, as part of the programme today, four excorps members of the 2022 Batch “C” have been honoured for a meritorious service year. Odede Joseph, Kosisochukwu Theresa Ilogu, and Nworie Kenneth Tochukwu, all medical personnel, won the “State Honours Award,” having carried out illustrious projects including building an eye clinic in the State, and were awarded a sum of #500,000 each, while Osehenye Emmanuel Onyeka, was presented a certificate of “Attestation for meritorious service year,” after serving the scheme in State with his skills and hardwork.
