Kebbi Government Orders Death Penalty or Life Imprisonment for Informants Aiding Bandits

Following renewed attacks by armed bandits in parts of Kebbi State, the state government says it is considering reviewing existing laws to introduce the death penalty or life imprisonment for informants found guilty of aiding bandit activities.
Governor Nasiru Idris disclosed this on Tuesday during condolence visits to Tadurga village in Zuru and Kyebu in Danko/Wasagu Local Government Areas, where recent attacks claimed the lives of 30 people.
Describing informants as a major threat to society, the governor stressed that his administration will treat security matters with utmost seriousness and will not compromise on the safety of lives and property.
“We are here to see things for ourselves, commiserate with you, and reassure you about the urgent actions being taken to bolster security,” he said.
Governor Idris also revealed that plans have been concluded to establish a Nigerian Army operational base in the Zuru Emirate to strengthen the region’s security architecture. He added that armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and other security equipment have been secured from Abuja and are being deployed immediately.
Expressing sorrow over the attacks, he prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and quick recovery for the injured. “The death of our people is a painful tragedy. May Allah grant them Aljannah Firdausi,” he said.
Highlighting his administration’s investment in security, the governor stated: “We’ve spent a substantial amount to support security efforts. We provided 80 Hilux vehicles for security agencies, 1,500 motorcycles for vigilantes, and increased the allowances of operatives in volatile areas.”
He also cautioned citizens against politicising security issues or making inciting comments on social media, urging collective support in the fight against insecurity.
