IPOB’s Lawyer Condemns Killing of 19 Ebonyi Indigenes in Anambra

Lead counsel for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has strongly condemned the killing of about 19 unarmed Nigerians in Ogboji community, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State by yet-to-be-identified gunmen.

According to ASIWAJU MEDIA, the attackers stormed the community on Monday evening and opened fire on a group of Ebonyi State natives who were holding a meeting, leaving at least 19 dead.

Preliminary reports suggest the assailants demanded the minutes of the meeting before launching the attack. Police have since begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement on Tuesday, Ejiofor described the killings as a “senseless and cold-blooded massacre,” emphasizing that the victims were brutally executed.

He asserted that every Nigerian has an inherent right to life, freedom of movement, peaceful assembly, and the liberty to reside and engage in lawful activities anywhere in the country. He said the attack constituted a “grievous violation of these sacred rights and an intolerable affront to the principles of justice, unity, and peaceful coexistence.”

Ejiofor called on Anambra State authorities to swiftly identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible.

“The perpetrators must be subjected to the full weight of the law, no matter how highly placed or shielded they may appear to be,” he declared. “We insist that the findings of the investigation must not be shrouded in secrecy.”
