The scholarship awards, which were presented at a ceremony held in Abakaliki yesterday, was initiated by Comrade Shedrack Maduabuchi Ogodo, leader of the Senior Comrade Forum Ikwo Noyo Chapter.

Each of the 6 beneficiaries received a cash award of N50,000 to support their tuition fee payment.

The beneficiaries were selected from the 5 principal communities in Ikwo.

The recipients of the scholarship awards are Nte Modester Nwafor from Echara, studying at Federal College of Agriculture, Ishiagu; Ukachukwu Christian Nnaemeka from Okpuitumo, a 400-level Mass Communication student at Federal University, Ndufu-Alike (FUNAI); Chukwu Sampson Mmaduachi from Unweka, a 200-level French student at FUNAI; Onwe Ruth Ugochi from Mgbabu, studying Accountancy at Akanu Ibiam Federal Polytechnic, Unwana (AIFPU); Nwoba Chukwudi Solomon from Noyo Alike, studying Criminology and Security Studies at FUNAI; Uchechukwu Emmanuel from Echara, studying Law at Ebonyi State University; and an additional student whose name was not disclosed.

Comrade Ogodo said the scholarship awards were initiated to support students who were struggling to pay their school fees.

He explained that he was inspired to initiate the scholarship program after encountering a Law student who was on the verge of dropping out of school due to financial difficulties.

Comrade Nwafor Joshua, Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Affairs, who flagged off the payment of the scholarships, commended the Senior Comrade Forum for their kind gesture.

He described the scholarship awards as a rare display of community spirit and solidarity.

The Secretary-General of the Committee, Comrade Agu Noble Emmanuel, who is also the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Ikwo Chapter, said the committee had to make difficult decisions to select the beneficiaries.

He explained that the committee ultimately chose to support those who needed it most.
