“I won’t be distracted from doing what’s right for Nigeria” – Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged his commitment to national development and unity, insisting that he will not be distracted from taking the right actions for Nigeria, regardless of criticism.
Speaking through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the launch of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido’s autobiography titled “Being True to Myself”, Tinubu stressed the importance of political inclusivity and national cohesion.
The event, held at the NAF Conference Centre in Abuja, brought together prominent political figures from across the country.
Describing Lamido’s autobiography as a valuable contribution to Nigeria’s democratic and political history, Tinubu, represented as the Grand Guest, praised the former governor for his steadfastness and political courage.
“This is more than a book launch,” Idris said on behalf of the President. “It is the celebration of a life defined by courage, consistency, and commitment to democratic ideals. Alhaji Sule Lamido, though a staunch member of the political opposition and often a critic of the Tinubu administration, remains one of the strong pillars of Nigeria’s political evolution.”
Tinubu acknowledged Lamido’s long-standing boldness in challenging successive governments, including his own, but admired his adherence to personal conviction and principle.
Reflecting on the book’s title, the President said it truly captures Lamido’s character as a blunt and principled politician.
He emphasized that in a thriving democracy, opposition should not be seen as hostility, but rather as a constructive contest of ideas.
“Every citizen, regardless of party affiliation, has a seat at the table of national discourse,” Tinubu stated.
The Minister commended the decade-long effort Lamido invested in his autobiography, describing it as a “labour of resilience” and encouraging other political leaders to document their experiences for future generations.
Drawing parallels between Lamido and Tinubu, Idris said both leaders are defined by a shared commitment to truth, justice, and prosperity for all.
“President Tinubu remains committed to guiding Nigeria toward economic growth and stability despite the many challenges,” he added.
On the issue of national security, Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration will continue working to protect lives and defend the nation’s territorial integrity.
He commended the military for their unwavering service and sacrifices.
Idris also highlighted recent efforts by the administration to improve revenue generation through new tax reforms aimed at promoting national development without overburdening citizens.
While welcoming constructive criticism from the public, Tinubu made it clear that he remains undistracted in his mission.
“Constructive criticism is welcome at all times, in the spirit of freedom of speech and democratic engagement,” he said, “but I will never allow myself to be distracted from doing what is right for Nigeria.”
