Governor Mbah Dismisses Defection Rumours, Affirms Commitment to PDP

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, has dismissed rumours suggesting he plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), affirming his continued membership and commitment to the party.

Speaking on Saturday during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors in Enugu, Mbah described the speculation as baseless.

“I am still in the PDP. As you can see, the flag behind me is that of the PDP,” he stated.

While acknowledging the party’s internal challenges, the governor maintained that the PDP was not solely responsible for the broader crises affecting the country and expressed confidence that the party would overcome its difficulties in due course.

On the issue of independent candidacy, Mbah pointed out that the Nigerian Constitution does not provide for individuals to contest elections as independent candidates.

“You must still do the politics; you cannot completely shield yourself from it,” he said.

Reiterating his administration’s focus on governance, Mbah emphasised that the people of Enugu State would ultimately determine whether to renew his mandate or vote for a change.

He also disclosed that his main opponent in the 2023 governorship election, Chijioke Edeoga, had returned to the PDP to work with his administration in advancing the state’s development.
