Ganduje’s Resignation Linked to Kwankwaso’s Planned Defection to APC

The resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has been linked to alleged moves by former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to join the ruling party.

Asiwaju Media reports that Ganduje on Friday formally submitted his resignation letter to the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in Abuja.

While initial reports claimed that Ganduje stepped down due to health concerns, emerging details suggest deeper political undercurrents behind the decision.

A source familiar with the development told ASIWAJU MEDIA on Friday night that Ganduje’s resignation was prompted by Kwankwaso’s imminent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC.

“Kwankwaso is expected to join the APC any moment from now, unless he changes his mind again. As of today, the arrangement is already in place for that to happen,” the source disclosed.

According to the insider, Ganduje, who has long been seen as Kwankwaso’s political rival, was unwilling to receive him into the party and opted to step aside instead.

“It looks like they are sworn enemies. The defection of Kwankwaso is very important to the APC, especially with 2027 in view. But Ganduje has vowed that he won’t welcome him into the party, so he had to step aside,” the source added.

Meanwhile, there has been speculation that President Bola Tinubu may consider replacing Vice President Kashim Shettima with Kwankwaso as running mate in the 2027 presidential election.

According to some APC stakeholders supporting the alleged plan, Kwankwaso is believed to have stronger electoral appeal than the incumbent vice president.
