Fani-Kayode Urges FG to Act Swiftly as Boko Haram Escalates Attacks in North East

Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has urged the federal government to take decisive action against the rising wave of Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria’s North East region.

Fani-Kayode expressed deep concern over reports that Boko Haram and other terrorist groups are now deploying sophisticated drones—allegedly sourced from Israel and Ukraine—to strike military installations in the region.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the former Minister of Tourism called on the federal government to investigate and cut off funding and external support to these insurgent groups. He also demanded the immediate deportation of all foreign nationals found to be aiding the terrorists financially.

Fani-Kayode further appealed to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to fully support the military in its efforts to identify and bring to justice politicians allegedly sponsoring terrorist activities.

Highlighting the worsening humanitarian toll of terrorism, he recounted a chilling incident in Zamfara State where a 79-year-old Islamic cleric, his wife, and three children were abducted. Despite a ransom payment of 11 million naira, the cleric was reportedly killed and his two-year-old child brutally burned alive. The wife and remaining children are still being held captive.

“This is nothing short of barbaric and must be condemned in the strongest terms,” he said.

Fani-Kayode warned that terrorists now possess advanced capabilities, including drone attacks against military targets in Borno and Yobe states, resulting in the loss of soldiers’ lives.

“O Lord, how much longer must we endure this relentless evil and suffering?” he lamented.

He concluded by urging the federal government to take bold action: “Crush the terrorists, deal with their foreign sponsors, expel illegal immigrants, secure and fortify our borders, and provide our armed forces with everything they need—along with full operational freedom—to eliminate these threats, including the political figures covertly backing them.”
