CAN Leads Gboko Protest Against Benue Fulani Herdsmen Killings

The Benue Fulani herdsmen killings sparked a massive protest on Friday as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) led thousands of worshippers through the streets of Gboko, the historic heart of Tiv land. The demonstration aimed to denounce the persistent attacks and loss of lives in Benue State blamed on suspected armed Fulani herdsmen.
Holding placards and singing solemn hymns, Christians from various denominations united in a passionate outcry against what they described as systematic, targeted violence. The protest over the Benue Fulani herdsmen killings saw many participants in tears, overwhelmed by grief and anger at the government’s inability to halt the bloodshed devastating their communities.
CAN leaders condemned the brazen invasion of villages under the pretext of cattle grazing, accusing the attackers of deliberately targeting innocent residents, including women and children. Chants demanding justice and immediate government intervention echoed throughout Gboko as demonstrators urged federal and state authorities to fulfill their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
The Gboko protest against Fulani herdsmen killings came just hours after a similar outcry in Agan, a Makurdi suburb, where aggrieved women blocked the Makurdi–Lafia highway to demand an end to the relentless violence.
