Ebonyi Govt, Whisper to Humanity Partners on Education Reform

The Ebonyi State Government has partnered with Whisper to Humanity, a youth-led education advocacy organization, to reform the education sector in the state.
The partnership, which aims to improve the quality of education in Ebonyi State, was formalized during a courtesy visit by Whisper to Humanity led by the Executive Director, Mary Jacob Okwuosa to the Ebonyi State Ministry of Education.
During the visit, Whisper to Humanity presented a position paper titled “Empowering Educators and Young Learners in Ebonyi State.”
The paper outlines the challenges facing the education sector in Ebonyi State and proposes strategic reforms.
According to the paper, the education sector in Ebonyi State faces several challenges, including inadequate infrastructure, outdated teaching methods, gender stereotypes and abuse, and limited resources for schools. These challenges have led to poor learning outcomes, low student motivation, and high teacher turnover rates.
To address these challenges, Whisper to Humanity proposes reforms such as equal access to sports and recreational activities, abuse-free school environments, enhanced teaching approaches, prioritized teacher welfare, upgraded school infrastructure, integrated digital literacy and entrepreneurship studies, and increased employment of non-teaching staff.

The position paper was developed in collaboration with educators and students from ten public secondary schools in Ebonyi State, including Izzo High School, Ndiegaz Umuoghara, Nnodo Secondary School, Abakaliki, and Federal Government Girls College, Ezzangbo.
The Commissioner for Education, Engr. Professor Paul A Nwobasi commended Whisper to Humanity for their dedication to improving education in the state.
He acknowledged the challenges outlined in the position paper and affirmed that the government has already begun addressing many of these concerns.
The Commissioner emphasized the importance of skill acquisition and digital literacy, urging students to take advantage of emerging technological trends to build self-reliance.
He announced that the state government has allocated ₦800 million to the construction of modern school facilities.
The partnership between the Ebonyi State Government and Whisper to Humanity is expected to drive meaningful change in the education sector in the state.
In appreciation, Master Chizzy William, a student of State Special Secondary School, Opefia, commended Whisper to Humanity for its efforts in advocating for educational reform in Ebonyi State, and urged the state government to implement the organization’s recommendations to enhance learning environments.
