Cristiano Ronaldo Hints at Al-Nassr Exit with Cryptic Farewell Message

Cristiano Ronaldo has sparked speculation about his future at Al-Nassr after posting a cryptic farewell message on Instagram shortly after the conclusion of the Saudi Pro League season.

The 40-year-old Portuguese icon scored in Al-Nassr’s final match before writing: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.” The statement has fueled rumors that Ronaldo is set to leave the Riyadh-based club, although no official announcement has been made.

Reports indicate that negotiations over a contract extension have collapsed in recent weeks, potentially setting the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on course to become a free agent this summer.

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in early 2023 on a record-breaking deal, but his time at the club has been trophyless. The team finished second in the 2024/25 season, 13 points behind champions Al-Ittihad, despite Ronaldo’s prolific form.

Individually, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United star remained in stellar shape, racking up 99 goals in 111 appearances for Al-Nassr.

While his next destination remains uncertain, Ronaldo has been linked with an emotional return to Sporting CP, his boyhood club, as well as a potential move to Major League Soccer. Retirement, however, is off the table for now. The forward has previously stated his ambition to reach 1,000 career goals—he currently stands near the 940 mark.

For now, Ronaldo will shift his focus to international duty as he joins the Portugal squad for their UEFA Nations League semi-final clash against Germany on June 4.
