Brazil’s Vice President, Geraldo Alckmin, alongside his wife Maria Lúcia Alckmin, arrived Tuesday at the Presidential Wing of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport to officially launch the Second Session of the Nigeria-Brazil Strategic Dialogue Mechanism (SDM).

According to a statement by Stanley Nkwocha, media aide to Nigeria’s Vice President, the high-level visit marks a major step forward in Nigeria’s South-South diplomatic agenda and is expected to drive key policy advancements in sectors such as agriculture, energy, and industrial development.

The Brazilian delegation was welcomed by senior Nigerian officials, including Deputy Chief of Staff to the President Ibrahim Hadejia; Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Jumoke Oduwole; Minister of Livestock Development Idi Maiha; and Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Senator Abubakar Kyari.

Speaking during the reception, Hadejia described the visit as “a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” highlighting its significance in deepening strategic ties with Brazil.

“This dialogue mechanism reflects our dedication to harnessing South-South partnerships that deliver real results for our people,” he said. “Brazil’s leadership in agribusiness, energy transition, and industrial growth aligns closely with Nigeria’s development priorities and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision.”

The three-day summit is expected to wrap up with the signing of over thirty Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), covering defence cooperation, agricultural technology transfer, energy collaboration, and cultural exchange initiatives — signaling a new chapter in Nigeria-Brazil relations.
