Ayra Starr Makes Acting Debut in Hollywood Fantasy Film

Grammy-nominated Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her excitement about stepping into the world of acting with her debut role in the upcoming American fantasy film Children of Blood and Bone.

In a recent interview with CBS, Starr reflected on the experience, noting that it challenged her in unexpected ways. Unlike the more flexible environment she’s accustomed to in the music industry, acting demanded strict discipline and punctuality.

“This is my first movie ever,” she said. “I’m used to being a singer and a diva on set, but with this film, it’s not about you. You have to be on set on time. It made me learn military time and work really hard. I respect actors so much more now. Their stamina is impeccable.”

Starr also revealed that acting has always been a dream of hers, even if she was initially hesitant to pursue it.

“I love music, but I’ve always loved acting,” she added. “I’ve always been shy when it comes to acting. But this is the first time in my life I’ve been on camera and not singing. It was amazing. I learned so much from everyone, not just the greats.”

Children of Blood and Bone is adapted from Nigerian-American author Tomi Adeyemi’s bestselling novel of the same title. Directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, the film boasts an impressive cast including Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Cynthia Erivo, Viola Davis, and Thuso Mbedu.

Paramount Pictures is slated to release the movie on January 15, 2027.
