Prominent Nigerian political figures converged at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday for the official unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the political platform for a new opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Those in attendance include:

  • Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
  • Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate
  • Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State
  • Rotimi Amaechi, former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation

Also present are former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who were recently announced as the interim National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, respectively.

Other key figures at the event include Senator Dino Melaye, former Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung, media personality Dele Momodu, Senators Gabriel Suswam and Ireti Kingibe, former Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha, and retired Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.

The gathering marks a significant step in the formation of a united political front aimed at challenging the dominance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Wells Carlton Hotel but was relocated to the Yar’Adua Centre after the hotel withdrew its booking hours before kickoff, citing internal compliance concerns. Despite the disruption, the unveiling proceeded as planned.
